Current Legislative Priorities
PHANYC is actively engaged in supporting several New York State legislative proposals that would promote food and nutrition priorities. These include:
- Proposed Statewide Menu Calorie Labeling Bill. This measure would extend across the state the kind of menu calorie labeling now required in chain restaurants in NYC. To learn more about this proposal, read PHANYC’s letter and memo of support.
- Proposed Healthy Schools Act. This measure would improve the nutritional value of the foods served in our children’s schools. To learn more, read PHANYC’s letter and memo of support.
- Health Reform. PHANYC supports health reform that makes quality, affordable health care available to all. Recently, Policy and Legislative Committee Chair Lois Uttley and Student Committee Co-Chair Jessica Silk testified before the New York City Council on the need to improve health insurance options for young adults (ages 19 to 29), who have the highest un-insurance rate of any age group. Read Lois Uttley's and Jessica Silk's testimonies.
